Instant photography is modern magic! There’s nothing quite like seeing an image appear before your very eyes, on a sheet of film that was completely white mere moments ago. Ever since it was introduced to the world, the instant photography format spread far beyond just professional photographers; instant photography appeals to the photography creativity mindset of amateur photographers, hobbyists, and everyone else! If you’re looking to get yourself an instant camera but don’t know where to start, read on to find the model that’s just right for you!
If you’ve ever heard the phrase “point and shoot”, you already know how to use the Fujifilm Instax Mini 11! The Mini 11 is the simplest and most affordable camera in the Fujifilm Instax line, making it fantastic for children, beginners, and anyone who wants to dabble in instant photography. This no-frills design includes regular and selfie modes, so there’s no settings to fiddle around with. You take your photos, and the camera figures out the rest. In the words of Dan Bracaglia of DPReview:
“The Instax Mini 11 is for those seeking the easiest-to-use instant camera for the most popular instant film format.”

Bottom Line: The Mini 11 is affordable and easy to use.
Think of the Fujifilm Instax Mini 70 as the Instax Mini 11 all grown up. Along with a selfie mode, you’ll get more advanced functions and a self-timer, meaning you can put yourself in your photos even when shooting alone. Overall, the Instax Mini 70 is a perfect middle ground between the Instax Mini 11 and Instax Mini 90. If you want more options when it comes to shooting modes, but don’t need all the bells and whistles, the Mini 70 is the way to go. Jim Fisher’s PCMag review goes a little more in-depth…

Bottom Line: A simple camera that covers all your needs.
There are plenty of good things to say about the Fujifilm Instax Mini 90’s capabilities, but we love it most for its gorgeous retro aesthetic! Whether you get it in brown, red, or the classic black, this camera would look right at home in a vintage camera collection.
But the Instax Mini 90 is not just a pretty face; this camera includes all the features of the
Instax Mini 70 and more! Photograph anything your way with bulb, force flash, double exposure options, and more! It also features a rechargeable battery, so you won’t have to run to the corner store before every shoot. Check out what the folks at
GearLab have to say about the Instax Mini 90…

The
Fujifilm Instax Mini LiPlay is far from a one-trick-pony. This jack-of-all-trades can certainly be a good old fashioned instant camera, but it can also act as a digital camera and wireless printer! Whether you’re interested in being able to print your smartphone photos or just want to make sure your instant prints turn out just right, this is the camera for you. Plus, the Instax LiPlay comes in three eye-catching colours, making it as stylish as it is functional. We love this camera and aren’t the only ones that do; the portable technology expert,
Scott Gilbertson, at
Wired even called it “a little magical”!
“Fujifilm's latest instant camera offers the best of both Instax worlds: It's an instant camera and printer in one.”

Bottom Line: For the photographer who leaves no room for error.
There’s something so nostalgic about square format photos. If you agree, the
Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1 might be the camera for you. This beautiful camera comes in three trendy colours, and its rounded shape has an 80s flair, making it a beautiful accessory or piece of décor on top of being a fantastic camera. It’s a simple camera without too many functions, great if you like the Instax Mini 11 and Instax 70 but want to see your photos bigger than the mini format. Check out what
Caleb Babcock at
Moment has to say about the Instax Square SQ1 instant camera.
“The world’s most intuitive instant film camera for modern digital users… make more memories in a bigger square. Like Instagram, but real life.”

Bottom Line: The camera to go for if you love the square photo format.
Picture this: you want to take some instant photos, but you’re sick of wasting film on photos that just don’t look quite right. So, you take out your Fujifilm Instax SQ20 and take a picture, but it doesn’t print out! Instead, you’re able to see it on the LCD screen on the back of the camera and decide whether or not you want to print it. The SQ20 is a perfectionist’s dream! While this camera can work as a regular instant camera, its digital capabilities mean that it can also work as a digital camera only. And of course, you can review the photos you’ve taken. Interested in finding out more? Check out what Amy Davies at the Photography Blog has to say about the Instax SQ20…
“One of the good things about the camera being a hybrid model is that if you’re not happy with a shot, you haven’t wasted a shot – plus you can print out the same shot more than once if you feel particularly proud of it.”

Bottom Line: Perfect format, perfect photos.
The Fujifilm Instax Wide 300 has gained something of a cult following since its introduction to the photography world. It’s the only camera that takes wide film, the largest of the Instax film stocks. This means you get a much larger image than you would with any other camera on this list. Of course, a larger image means a larger camera, but if image quality is your priority, the Instax Wide 300 is the camera for you.
It doesn’t have the bells and whistles and creative modes that some other Instax cameras boast, but the editors at
GearLab say it has “excellent image clarity and color saturation”…
“In our testing this camera produced the most consistent quality prints with the best exposure, color saturation, and clarity of all the models we tested.”

Bottom Line: When image quality is all that matters.
We love all these Instax cameras for different reasons. Every Instax camera is going to be the perfect fit for someone. Which one do you think is the best fit for you? Let us know!
